Guidelines

It is my pleasure to welcome you to the Equine STAR Foundation at Haley Hills Farm. On behalf of the Board of Trustees, I thank you for your interest—volunteering your time, talents, and financial support.
After three years of dedicated service, Equine STAR was given 501(c)3 non-profit status on Feb. 28, 2007 and are NOW considered a registered public charity. We currently have 31 horses in our care and receive calls about more in need every day. Young, old, rescued, unwanted, abused, retired— giving each horse a new life with a special purpose-is our goal. After rehabilitation, we provide community outreach opportunities using our horses through educational programs.
We have a booklet that was prepared by and in conjunction with volunteers to provide a good look at what our charitable organization needs as well as how volunteers can best help the horses and children in our care. We appreciate our volunteers but safety comes first for all. Therefore, we found the need to create a Volunteer Levels Program. This program is easy with Basic Orientation classes that are free and the more advanced classes requiring a donation.
Please be assured that 100% of your donation goes to the care of our equine friends and their programs. With your help today, we will make the lives of so many healthy and happy!
My many thanks to you all for sharing in our vision!
Sincerely,
Joan Tucker
Founder & President, Equine STAR Foundation
Please note: ALL volunteers MUST sign a liability waiver prior to any activities involving Equine STAR or Haley Hills Farm. Volunteer Requirements—13 & under must be accompanied by an adult. Ages 14 –18 will be determined on an individual basis.

Level 1
Each month, we have activities hosted by Haley Hills Farm to benefit the Equine STAR Foundation. All these events require volunteers, just like you, to help them succeed! From set-up to take-down, (and all the jobs in between), we value your time and talents as you help us—help the horses! See our Calendar of Events Page.
Please call two months ahead if you are interested in an event so you can be included in all mailings, preparation meetings, etc.
Level 2
Farm Maintenance
Orientation Classes are held monthly on a monthly basis & are FREE!
There is so much to keeping a facility such as ours neat, clean, and ready for horses and their human friends. This second level truly is needed on a daily basis and is where all volunteers begin to understand the needs of the horses. These “Barn Chores” included:
· Mucking Stalls
· Cleaning buckets, troughs, feeding utensils
· “Field Trips” where rocks, halters & other items are located and removed from each pasture.
· Check fence lines
· Stacking hay for daily use.
· Sweeping aisles and removing cobwebs.
· Cleaning tack, halters, saddles, blankets, bridles
· See the Barn Board for any additional needs.
Level 3
Horse Care
Orientation classes are held each month. A one-time donation of $10 is due prior to class.
Working with horses requires a knowledge base and assessment of abilities. We appreciate your interest but hope you understand our need to put our horses and your safety—FIRST!
In this class you will learn how to:
· Think Like a Horse
· Groom/Halter a horse
· Be a Leader—Check for Problems
· Walk a horse proficiently.
Level 4
Therapeutic Riding Assistance
Orientation classes are held each month. A one-time donation of $10 is due prior to class.
Join our Certified Instructors as they guide you to helping and fulfilling the dreams of emotionally, physically, and mentally impaired individuals. Learn what to do and watch for in a successful riding experience!
Level 5
Horse Partnership
Assessment classes are held on an individual basis.
A donation of $25 is due prior to each class.
This is for those who wish to ride independently. Please do not be insulted if we feel you may need a few lessons before you take one of our horses out. Especially with Trail Riding, safety is our primary concern. Unexpected things happen and we want to prepare you as best as possible. We do not “RENT” our horses out but accept donation of $25 or more for those wishing to ride after achieving a Level 5 approval.
