Our Horses

We receive calls weekly about horses that, for various reasons, need a home.  As a 501(c)3 non-profit organization, we’d love to take them all in but we need help!

We have 25 horses in our program currently.  Below you will find 9 mares and 2 geldings who have stories they would love to share with you!

Our Hay Soup Girls (left to right)

Sophie, Patches, Rustina, and Grace

Our Boy, Jack...

came with his buddy, Maverick, the Fall of 2008.  If Jack, (age 24), could only tell us his life story... He worked on the Missouri range as a cowhorse, ponied race horses at the track, participated as a team penning horse, and did gymkana in open shows, and then, became a trail horse for a private family. Due to family health issues, the boys were given to us by that family and we have been working with them.  Watch for an update on their progress!

Polly  came to us with her sister, Dolly, as a driving team, ready to help those with disabilities.  Regretfully, we didn't know that Polly had a life threatening infection that needed surgery.  Michigan State University and the veterinarians performed an ovarectomy, which saved her life!  In the meantime, her sister, Dolly, developed severe arthritis and could no longer pull a wagon.  Our Dolly passed away in June 2009.  Polly is used now as a lead-line horse for individuals with challenges. Happy Days Dakota & Amanda

Dakota is a 9 year old buckskin POA (Pony of the
Americas) gelding donated to us in 2008.  He had been a pasture pet for over 5 years after his owner went to college.   With Amanda's help and determination, this pair entered the Oakland County 4-H Circuit shows and won the High Point Pony Trophy for 2008 AND 2009!

Congratulations to them both!

Green Lips are IN!!

When horses get older, their teeth no longer erupt or they just fall out from lack of care.  The Hay Soup Girls believe life is just fine on a liquid diet!

Sophie is a 25+ TB ex-racehorse brood mare.  She came to us underweight because of her teeth.  At 16.1 hands, she has filled out nicely and is used for trail riding and some showing.

Sweetie Pie Patches is our oldest horse/pony turning 49 years old on Jan. 1, 2009.  Used as a camp pony for most of her adult life, Patches knows her way around kids and is very patient!  She is still being ridden as a therapeutic lead-line horse for smaller children with special needs. (Patches passed away in late August 2009 from a slipped disc injury.  We will miss our girl...)

Rustina continues to amaze us at the farm!  She is approximately 28 years old this year and still loves to barrel race.  Two years ago, she took first in the Oakland County Fair in the Flag Race and went on to the Michigan State 4-H Fair, taking 3rd place overall.  Considering she was racing against those "young whipper- snappers," we were so proud of her and Jessie who rode her to victory!

Grace is a beautiful Polish Arabian who is also 26 years old this year.  She is AHA registered and was purchased at the auction in poor condition after years being a brood mare.  She would shy away from most people but with the help of Samantha, Grace has received lots of TLC and is now one of our "poster" horses. She continues to show at local 4-H and school competitions.

Star really has a blaze on her face, but we still kept her name.  Star is a trail riding dream.  At 8 years old, she came to us extremely under weight and people shy.  Like so many of our horses, they look for the love of a certain someone.  Star became Dana's (a cancer survivor) project.  With the help of Star and friends like Sharon (above), Dana was able to recover from her own health issues and get back to riding the trails again.  Healing is a two way street at Haley Hills.

Tiny Bubbles, makes us Happy!

She is now our resident artist.  One of her paintings sold at auction for $35!

At the approximate age of 36, Bubbles has proven to be a wonderful partner for children learning to ride.  A member of the Pony of the Americas breed, she is a determined little girl who loves to be pampered and succeeds at open shows with her riders.
